Sensei Ron Hicks, 6th Dan, Chief Instructor

Ron started training in September 1971 at the Bath club, under Sensei Brian Middleton.  He trained in Exeter for four years while studying at the University of Exeter. He then moved to Tamworth in the Midlands where he and Rob Welsh ran the Castle Bromwich club. He moved to Kuwait in 1985 and helped set up the Kuwait Karate Federation, just prior to the invasion by Iraq in 1990. He went back to Kuwait for a further 3 years before returning to Bath permanently in 1994, where he has trained ever since.

Sensei Kieran Shore, 5th Dan, Club Secretary

Kieran is a KUGB qualified instructor who has been CRB checked. He began his Karate training in 1985 at Bath Karate Club under the instruction of Sensei Brian Middleton and in 1990 achieved his 1st Dan under the late Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda who also graded him to 2nd and 3rd Dan, and he was graded to 4th Dan in 2008 under Sensei Andy Sherry and Sensei Bob Poynton. Over the years Kieran has been fortunate to train under many other world-renowned karateka such as Senseis Osaka, Tanaka, Kanazawa, Kawasoe, Terry O’Neill , Bob Rhodes, Billy Higgins, Dave Hazard and the late Sensei Tabata. Kieran has been a member of the KUGB Central Region Kata squad since 2000 and regularly makes the trip to the Midlands with some of his Bath Karate Club colleagues to train under Sensei Frank Brennan 7th Dan. Kieran has enjoyed competing over the years and was the Southern Region Kata champion in 1988 and still keeps his hand in by competing in Kata at the KUGB National Championships.
