Southern Region Championships

Yesterday, Bath Shotokan Karate took a squad of competitors to the KUGB Southern Region Championships in Reading. The highlights of the day have been described below by Richard:

It was another great day for Bath Shotokan Karate Club yesterday with 8 competitors from the club: Ron, Kieran, Craig, Phillip, Richard, Chloe, Amy and Emma.

All our competitors performed well on the day against tough competition.

The best results were from Kieran who took the gold medal in the Veterans Dan Grade Kata and regained his title as Southern Area Veterans Kata Champion and from Emma who took the silver medal in the under 16s mixed Brown Belt Kata.

Our competitors were all in individual events but it was definitely a team effort with Ron and Kieran supporting everyone during the eliminations. In the afternoon Ron prepared both our finalists and, in Emma’s case, his sage advice that it is better to choose a polished basic kata rather than a very good but less polished advanced kata may have been decisive in helping her to achieve the best possible result on the day.
